We think the key point in this video is really that you can change any step, weight shift or side step, etc. into a step that you can turn. So the question is: "how do I replace one part of one step to turn it?"

00:05
If we do a normal left foot basic:
00:09
Side, he changes, she doesn't, we start out both people left, right, she crosses.
00:16
Here, instead of him doing that extra step...
00:19
I'm not, I'm not going to step, I'm going to go side,
00:23
And I'm going to subtract a step. I'll rotate her around me... and then we both step. And she crosses.
00:30
That's kind of cool.
00:31
It is. And it's great for the flow of a vals.
00:34
So, if you look at the leader's footwork,
00:38
We've got: side, and then I rotate, and she steps, and then we move on through.
00:47
And, for the followers, you've got: side, and then he'll step you around him.
00:56
And notice that, as I am stepping around him,... my invisible partner, Sam.
01:02
We go up, over, and I keep my body pretty far forward.
01:06
And then, as the leader pushes through you, that completes the shift, so you can go out together.
01:12
It's got a beautiful flow to it, this step.
01:16
So, we'll do it slowly: side, she goes around me. I go through her. We change, and go on.
01:23
And then we fall off. But we'll do it again.
01:28
Side, she goes around me. I go through her, and we exit.
01:33
And now, if we do it as we really would, not in super-slow motion, and to this music:
01:37
Da-da-ta-pa.
01:51
And, you'll notice, there's a sense that my body really turns, and it keeps going.
01:56
It's really got a great flow. Did we say that already?
01:59
We did.
