Exploring Possibilities - Intro: Constraints Help You Explore
It's true of a lot of these videos that, even someone who is a beginner can understand what's going on. But often, to experience all of the video or apply it, requires someone who is quite advanced because the execution requires confidence that usually comes only with quite a lot of experience.
Even if you're a beginner, we encourage you to try this. We think it will help you engage in your learning process in a very different way.

- And what we're going to do, is we're going to start giving you some constraints, we're going to say,

- That your hips will be at right angles,

- That the man's weight will be on his left foot, and the woman's weight will be on her right.

- And for now, at the very beginning, we're also going to say that you'll be mostly upright and that your leg will be on the floor.

- And, with these constraints then, we want you to not say,

- And then, out of this idea of exploring possibility,

- So, one of our beliefs, I think, is that

- And, you add constraints so that you can have a beautiful new art born.

- I think constraints are really useful in terms of creation and creativity.

- And then within those constraints, you can do whatever you want.

- And explore, and have fun, and then afterwards, you say, "Was that cool? Can we make it into something?"

- We've done this in class, and we'd say to people, "Stand on one foot, and you can only move the other foot."

- And it's really remarkably successful. They come up with these really crazy ideas,
