So in this series, we're gonna go through some, uh, tips
00:04
that will help you pivot more easily.
00:06
I'll, I'll be doing the pivoting show. I'm leading. Yeah.
00:09
And I'll be the follower. And first thing is,
00:12
if you've got shoes that are sticky, like for example,
00:14
here I've got these, uh, sneakers
00:17
and you're on a sticky floor
00:31
sock, like elastic material that's designed to be slippery
00:35
that you can put on your, on your shoe.
00:37
So you can just Google dance socks and things will come up.
00:40
So that's the first thing. And
00:42
They're not very expensive for
00:43
how much good you get outta them.
00:45
Um, second thing,
00:46
and we've gone over this in a, in a different video,
00:48
but it's worth repeating and we'll add some more detail.
00:52
Reminder I'm leading, is that when you step,
00:54
you wanna step to the ball of the foot.
00:57
So I'm to pivot. So here I wanna make the comment,
01:14
but that you're forward enough so that your heel rises, um,
01:19
and it's remarkably, uh, hard.
01:20
And so, uh, some things you can do to practice,
01:37
uh, one thing at a time.
01:38
And so then do, do, do and then then use hands to adjust.
01:45
And you're like, okay, there's the ball of my foot
02:00
here, which is fine,
02:02
but when it comes time to pivot, you'll see that you need
02:04
to shift forward a little bit over the ball of the foot.
02:08
So for the follower, take your time
02:12
and just say, oh, let me shift my, now if,
02:15
if you feel your toes gripping, that's too far forward.
02:18
Um, but on the other hand, if you let go
02:22
and you fall backwards,
02:24
then it's like, oh, I'm falling backwards.
02:26
Actually, what you want to do is you wanna let go
02:27
and not know which way you'll fall.
02:29
That's balance. Or have a little moment before you fall.
02:32
That helps too, right? You fall slowly.
02:33
And, and for leaders, what you want to do is you wanna feel
02:37
that very softly.
02:38
She's going to bring, I'm on my left foot,
02:40
she's gonna bring me forward very slowly.
02:42
And you can feel when the heel raises right here,
02:45
as she moves me, she'll feel my heel raise right there.
02:49
Yeah. And she'll keep moving me.
02:52
She'll feel a moment where there's pressure, no direction.
02:54
That's ball, uh, balance, ball of the foot.
02:57
Move me too far forward, slowly, slowly,
02:59
Gladly, Slowly.
03:02
Okay. I'm consistent.
03:04
She'll feel I tighten. That's my toes gripping.
03:07
And then she'll feel I'm leaning on her.
03:13
And so for the leaders,
03:15
move your follower very slowly forward
03:17
until you can develop the sensitivity to feel the heel,
03:20
raise the place of no pressure, and then too far.
03:24
And you can just practice that.
03:26
And that is remarkably similar to balancing a chair.
03:30
So the, in terms of feeling pressure.
03:32
So if you get a chair and you're balancing the chair on one
03:35
leg like this, if the chair falls immediately,
03:38
then it's way off balance.
03:40
But if you can say, oh, right here,
03:41
it's pushing this way, let me move it up.
03:46
And then you try to find a, a, a place
03:48
where there's no pressure in any direction.
03:52
Let's see if I can, wow.
03:54
You know, and, and it'll a balance a little while.
03:56
And, and that's developing this sensitivity so
03:59
that you can feel the, the pressure
04:02
of the follower leaning forward or back, or left or right.
04:05
So that's the first thing. Always find
04:07
balance before pivoting.
04:09
One really cool and important thing
04:11
that people don't understand easily is you can take all the
04:14
time you need for any of this stuff. And it's okay.
04:18
Very good. Thank you.
