Lunging - What to Practice - Listening
None
- 00:00
- So a lunge is not something that the follower does.
- 00:03
- It's something that the two of you do together,
- 00:05
- and you do it with the music,
- 00:07
- and it's that involvement with each other
- 00:10
- and with the music that can give it
- 00:11
- such texture and meaning.
- 00:14
- So as an example, if you, uh, listen to this small chunk
- 00:17
- of music, I'm gonna do do a poorly
- 00:20
- 'cause that's more fun, right?
- 00:22
- Well, no, not really.
- 00:26
- Oh, Right.
- 00:28
- And that clearly was the lunch
- 00:29
- that was disconnected from anything,
- 00:31
- Including me, including the music.
- 00:34
- So if we go to that same place in the music,
- 00:54
- right, and that second lunge was different
- 00:56
- than the first, they
- 00:57
- Felt very different.
- 00:59
- And so I want you to play with, with this idea then that
- 01:02
- you're gonna put on music just a small section,
- 01:04
- and you're gonna listen to it repeatedly
- 01:06
- and you're gonna decide, um, is your lunge
- 01:11
- or, or is it something else?
- 01:13
- And, and then you two together with your partner,
- 01:16
- you're gonna decide consciously
- 01:17
- how you're gonna relate to the music.
- 01:18
- And then later you'll do this
- 01:20
- and you will, uh, for the leader, I want you
- 01:24
- to surprise your partner.
- 01:26
- But you know, not in the
- 01:28
- Beginning, But,
- 01:29
- but meaning don't tell her in advance what you're gonna do.
- 01:31
- And then for the follower, you can have the experience
- 01:32
- of being with the leader through the journey of the lunge.
- 01:36
- I think that's important. It's a journey you take
- 01:38
- together.
