Classic Sacada Combinations - Adv - Walking Sacadas Into Front Ochos
This step can be very showy.
For The Leaders:
- Remember to let your right arm slide out
- Help the follower over pivot by giving her a little extra momentum at the end of her normal sized pivot
- Maintain your axis
- Study the placement of your sacada-ing foot
For The Followers:
- Let your left arm slide as much as you need so that you are almost turning away from the leader
- Step long
- Remember to step long with your whole body, pushing forward a little through the lower core
- Slightly face back towards the leader with your head and upper body but don't contort your body to get more facing.

- 00:06
- We start with front ochos as normal.
- 00:10
- But I’m going to have her step
in the line away from me. - 00:14
- So that I can go to her trailing foot
and it can travel. - 00:17
- And I’m stepping pretty big.
- 00:18
- Yes, good point.
- 00:20
- So ladies, you really want -
don’t hesitate with travelling away… - 00:24
- ..and leaders, really throw them away
from you as you go... - 00:26
- ..forward so you have room.
- 00:29
- Some people say that, when
you’re doing sacadas… - 00:33
- ..the leaders should just lead it
and you should be able to do it... - 00:36
- ..at whatever time it’s happening.
- 00:38
- I teach our students that, if you know
the guys is doing a sacada,… - 00:41
- ..cut him a little bit of a break on your collection.
- 00:44
- So that he has that little bit of extra time,
if he needs it, to get his foot in there. - 00:49
- And then, once you get a rhythm going,
you don’t have to do that. - 00:53
- I saw David's expression says he doesn't agree.
- 00:55
- I don’t agree with that.
- 00:56
- I know.
- 00:57
- It’s okay.
- 00:59
- So I change and I'll actually pivot her way
away from me... - 01:02
- ...so I can grab the back foot, way away.
And then it travels. - 01:09
- If I don’t trip her.
- 01:11
- N: You didn't trip me.
D: Oh, good. - 01:16
- Notice that her left arm can slide around,
so that it doesn’t get in the way. - 01:20
- You want to be careful of keeping it up here
on the front of the shoulder... - 01:23
- ..and then it gets very uncomfortable.
- 01:26
- That's, I think, one of the harder things about tango
in the beginning is... - 01:29
- ..for both of us to learn how much my left arm
and his right arm can travel, needs to travel. - 01:38
- Now, as I shift towards her trailing leg,
I’m going to be sending her away... - 01:43
- ..so that her body vacates that space.
- 01:46
- And likewise, here, I’m sending her that way
as I’m going forward... - 01:50
- ..so her body vacates that space.
- 01:55
- It's a lot harder to do slowly.
- 01:57
- D: Do one last time?
N: Okay.
