Lifts - Sit - Variations On The Sit
There are many variations on the sit. Sometimes they are very advanced.

From website: Mandrágora Tango is a tango band headed by bandoneonist Bob Barnes and guitarist Scott Mateo Davies, 2 Minneapolis-based musicians who are wildly passionate about tango. We have been playing tango for dancing and listening since 2001 and we are still going strong. We've played in over 40 cities all over the United States.
- 00:05
- We wanted to show some variations on the sit.
- 00:07
- And David said we should show them to you, and then, teach them to you.
- 00:11
- And, if we did that, that would be a very long video.
- 00:15
- So, what I think we're going to do is show you some spectacular things.
- 00:17
- And then, David can mention, very rapidly, a few points. This is a note to him, I guess.
- 00:22
- And, hopefully, you can work through them, if you really want them. They're hard.
- 00:30
- So, go ahead. Do some really cool things.
- 00:34
- This is a sit... This is the same sit, except it's very high.
- 00:43
- And you can see how Malakai gets that, by putting her on top of his arm, instead of under, on his hip.
- 00:49
- I think that was so wonderful.
- 00:52
- D: Notice the curve of his legs, as he does that, as well. Beautiful.
N: Oh, really? I didn't get to see that. - 00:56
- One more time, and then, we'll do the next.
- 00:59
- David: He lifts up in his back arm. Left arm comes underneath. Up high...
Nancy: Oh, it is beautiful. - 01:05
- So, the line of his body is completely cohesive, all the way up through the head.
- 01:10
- Next one.
- 01:13
- So, now, they'll do the same sit, but this time with a dip at the end.
- 01:22
- It shifts, becomes a lunge line. She goes down. They still stay together. Then, comes on up.
- 01:29
- He's like, "I can hold this, David. Look how beautiful it is". I agree, it really is.
- 01:35
- Now, finally, because those are far too easy. There's the one that turns.
- 01:41
- So, go for it. Turn it.
- 01:51
- Nice.
- 01:53
- And, while the turning on both feet is really surpr... You don't have to hold it.
- 01:58
- You know, four minutes later, as David keeps on talking.
- 02:02
- So, while the turning... as you're doing is hard, the last piece is, well, I guess, less hard. It's not easy. It's less hard.
- 02:10
- So, you'll notice that he has the step into it, and it comes down. And that's something, that... Well, we can both do. So, let me do with both.
- 02:17
- So, to accent that, we have our original lift. He comes underneath, lifts up. She comes over. You turn however you want.
- 02:26
- And then, I want you to think, you can step forward, and come... down.
- 02:40
- He really did lift up to lead that with his back.
- 02:44
- Notice I'm really pulling in for the centrifugal.
- 02:48
- And then, as it melts down in him... Sure, no harm.
- 02:53
- Malakai: All right. I think I'm turning the wrong way. Because, when I do it, I want to take a step back.
- 02:59
- No, you're fine. So, if you're... If I'm here, do-do-do, step forward with your right foot.
- 03:06
- Now, go to your left foot.
- 03:10
- I was stepping back with my left.
- 03:15
- I see. Let's pause.
- 03:20
- He lifts up, I come up over. Notice that I'm actually coming up quite high.
- 03:27
- He goes around. He steps forward. Then pulls down, going to his left foot. And then, here I am.
- 03:39
- So, the turning. Maybe, you work up to that. But that last piece, where you step to the foot, and then, it shifts.
- 03:47
- I want you to try that. Assuming you have the simple sit. "Simple".
- 03:56
- We've videoed the variations on the sit. And then, when I looked at them at home, on my computer,
- 04:01
- I realized, that, in the middle variation, we had partly cut Jessica's head off.
- 04:06
- We're keeping it anyway, because Malakai's line is so beautiful in that particular combination.
- 04:11
- And, that was his choreography, that wasn't mine.
- 04:14
- And, it was his choreography.
- 04:16
- But, we've decided that we're going to film it again.
- 04:18
- So, and I'll just... I've added it at the very end of the video, so you can see it with the entire bodies.
- 04:23
- And this is, then, with David and Jessica doing it.
- 04:32
- Scoot a little bit forward.
- 04:36
- Once again, lifts up, to bring, to lift the leg up. I'll go lower, hook underneath.
- 04:42
- Hook underneath, and adjust.
- 04:53
- One more time.
