Making Music With Dance - Interacting With The Music

You do not always have to do what the music says. Sometimes you can dance so that it feels like you are having a conversation with the composer, interacting with the music rather than following what you hear as its dictates. This requires quite sophisticated musicality but it is a very interesting occasional addition of texture to the conversation you have with your partner when you dance.

From website: Mandrágora Tango is a tango band headed by bandoneonist Bob Barnes and guitarist Scott Mateo Davies, 2 Minneapolis-based musicians who are wildly passionate about tango. We have been playing tango for dancing and listening since 2001 and we are still going strong. We've played in over 40 cities all over the United States.

So, I forgot to say: This is a pre-intro to your intro. This is crazy super hard.
00:10
If you could do what we talked about in the earlier song... Earlier chapters, musically, that is.
00:17
Dancing to the whole of... To the phrase. Dancing within the phrase.
00:20
Dancing to what you hear, so that it's textured. You'd be really good, musically.
00:25
Here, I want to talk about this idea, that, though, that you can have an opinion.
00:29
So, if the music is doing this, "Da-Da-da-pa-pam, Ba-da-ba-bam", you don't have to do that.
00:36
You could say, "Da. Da. Dum-pa. Ti-ti-da-da-dam. Da-da, di-di-da-dum."
00:46
And then, you would dance to this instrument that you are.
00:51
So, you don't... You can choose to be an instrument and add yourself to the music.
00:56
And it shows, looks radically different. For example,
01:02
Dum, di-da, da-da, daa. Dam, ba, um-boo. Pa-ta.
01:11
Da-da-da-ti, yum. Di-dam, bum. Da-da-dee, yum-bum. Ba-dum-bum-bum, bum-bum, bum-bum-ba.
01:27
Ta-ta, ta-ta-tam.
01:30
Or, for example, here, maybe you'll go, "Di-dee, daam, da-dam, bam".
01:41
Di-da-da-da, da. Da-dam, da-di. Ba-dam.
01:49
Right? So, you can choose to go ahead, go behind. Add layers. Do fugues.
01:54
So, anything, I want to say, that you might do musically, if you were an instrumentalist,
01:57
You could, in theory, do as a dancer. That's just a little nuts. But, sort of, fun.
