There are many really cool things a leader can do while the follower goes around him in molinette. All of them require he keep balanced on one foot, sometimes moving the free foot one way while he moves his chest a different way to lead the follower around him.

Reminders to help with balance:

  • The follower needs to keep the distance between them as even as possible
  • Just as we teach the follower, the leader can pull down gently on the follower using his upper back rather than his arms
  • The leader and follower can subtly pull away from each other
  • The leader and follower need to focus on using both hands rather than just one

From a review on the website: Olsen, an itinerant troubadour who regularly graces Australian folk festivals, was at her most engaging. Such was the candour of her songs and chatty tales that it would impossible for anyone with blood in their veins not to empathise with her. Her full-throated voice and crisp guitar served up such diverse subject matter as crop-dusting and prostitution, while a revealing yarn about life-drawing classes introduced The Truth of a Woman. From her new CD came In Your Darkened Room, the title track to an album containing some of her finest work, a black frost edging her usual warmth and humour.

So, carrying on with this theme of molinette, the man's shaping, we'll start in a pretty traditional way.
00:10
Where I'm... My foot's following hers. Then I cut behind and pivot.
00:15
And circle the other way...to cut.
00:20
So, I'm going to break apart the guy's part.
00:24
Beginning, hopefully, you know from other videos. Side, pivot. Inside leg. She goes around. You shift.
00:31
Very fast, I know, but you've seen it before.
00:33
Here, as you rotate your upper body, you rotate with the leg, as well.
00:39
And then, you cut. She goes around. You pivot, with that cut foot.
00:45
And now, you're going to rotate with the other leg, as she goes around.
00:48
And it's a tricky thing, right? 'Cause your upper body is rotating to your left, as your leg rotates to your right.
00:57
And then, back.
01:00
For the followers, you have a normal molinette.
01:12
There's mine... And then, here, I have to... We have to, sort of, miss each other with our feet. Ah! It's a tight fit.
01:29
Showing again, different angle.
01:43
Oh, I did a different thing. That's OK.
01:51
And, last time I pivoted it more, but hey.
